Start the seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. The soil temperature should be maintained at 75 F, then at 60 F afterward. Plant the seeds in direct sunlight, 1/4 inch beneath the soil surface, and cover with fine soil. Space seeds 3 to 4" apart. After 4 to 6 weeks, transplant seedlings outdoors spaced 15 to 24" apart in rows 2 to 3' apart.
