Herbs: Sage Planting Instructions:
Sage grows best in full sun and will be ready for harvest about 80 days after planting. You can start the seeds indoors up to 8 weeks before the last frost, or sow outside 2 weeks before the last frost. Plant 1/4 inch deep and 15" apart. Set the plants or thin seedlings to stand 24 to 30" apart in well-drained soil. Make sure the young plants get steady moisture until they start to grow vigorously.
Herbs: Sage Harvesting Instructions:
Sage is a perennial and it will come back once established. To help the plants grow, harvest lightly during the first year. In the next couple of years, you may be able to harvest the entire plant two or three times. When you harvest the Sage leaves, leave a few stalks in place so that the plant can rejuvenate and sprout new leaves. When storing Sage, it will maintain its flavor better if kept in the freezer. Freeze leaves or stalks on a tray, then move to an airtight container for long-term storage.
