Lettuce: Leaf - Deer Tongue Amish Planting Instructions:
Deer Tongue Amish Lettuce does best in full sun, planted a 1/2 inch deep with 1 to 2" between plants. Start the seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before transplanting or direct sow after the last frost of the season. After 7 to 15 days, the seeds should sprout. For full heads, thin the plants to 6" apart as they mature. To prevent the plants from bolting, keep them well watered and cool. Deer Tongue Amish Lettuce grows well in cool seasons. Gardeners in warmer zones should plant in the fall. Taller plants may also help keep the lettuce cool in sunny gardens or warm climates.
Lettuce: Leaf - Deer Tongue Amish Harvesting Instructions:
Lettuce will be ready to harvest after about 50 days. If you harvest the outer leaves of the plant before the lettuce is mature, you will be able to make multiple harvests. You may also wait until the plant produces a full-sized head of lettuce and harvest it by cutting where the head meets the top of the soil.
