Planting Guide
To cultivate your Big Max Pumpkins successfully:
- Ensure they receive plenty of sunlight and have ample room to grow.
- Once the frost has passed, sow groups of 3 to 6 seeds in fertile, warm soil, about 1 inch deep and spaced 4 to 6 feet apart.
- Expect seedlings to emerge within 7 to 14 days.
- When seedlings reach 1 to 2 inches in height, thin them down to the 2 to 3 strongest in each group.
- For extra-large pumpkins, allow only 1 fruit per plant to mature.
Harvesting Guide
Reap the fruits of your labor with these harvesting tips:
- Your pumpkins should be ready to harvest approximately 110 days after planting, once the rinds are hard and deep orange in color.
- If a light frost kills the vines, harvest the pumpkins as soon as possible.
- Use pruning shears to cut pumpkins from the vine, leaving about 3 inches of stem attached.
- Allow the pumpkin skin to harden in the sun for about a week.
