Fresh herbs such as English thyme add flavor and variety to your home cooking. These heirloom seeds from Patriot Seeds are Non-GMO. They are open-pollinated so you can grow, harvest, and replant your thyme crop endlessly. Friendly in most growing regions, thyme is a staple seasoning that can be used fresh, or dried and stored for later use. When you're ready to declare your food independence, buy Patriot Seeds.

English Thyme Planting Instructions:
Plant your thyme seeds 1/4" deep and 9-10" apart. Give your plants full sun and well-draining soil. Thyme can take awhile to germinate, so don't give up. To get the plants through a cold winter, mulch them after the ground freezes with a light mulch such as pine needles. In the spring, trim the plants back to prevent them from growing too woody.

English Thyme Harvesting Instructions:
As needed, harvest sprigs of thyme throughout the season. You can use your thyme both fresh and dry. To dry and store thyme, harvest sprigs in the early fall. Tie the sprigs together and hang them upside down in a shaded, warm, and well-ventilated area. Once dried, store the thyme in a sealed container. Alternatively, remove the leaves from the stem, lay them to dry on a tray, or freeze them.

Young women used to wear a corsage of thyme as an indication that they were single. The fresh thyme fragrance may have helped with the courting process, too.
